Cave of Antiparos

4.5(2,332)out of 5 on GoogleOpen · until 16:00📍 Paros

The Cave of Antiparos opens high on a hillside in the south of Antiparos, the small island facing Paros, and has drawn visitors for centuries. Its most famous guest was the French ambassador Olivier de Nointel, who held a Christmas mass inside in 1673, and older visitors carved their names into the rock, which you can still spot on the way down.

A long concrete staircase, several hundred steps, leads deep into chambers of stalactites and stalagmites. Going down is easy; coming back up is a proper workout, and the steps can be damp, so wear shoes with grip. It is noticeably cooler inside, which makes it a good escape on a hot day. Reach Antiparos by the boat from Parikia or the car ferry from Pounta, then drive or take the local bus to the cave, and check its hours in advance.
