What it costs
What Greece costs in 2026
Greece rewrote a lot of its prices in 2025 and 2026: the Acropolis went to €30, the big state sites to €20, a nightly resilience fee landed on every hotel bill and cruise passengers now pay to step ashore. Every figure below carries the day it was checked and how sure we are of it. Where only a range is honest — a taverna dinner, a sunbed, a hire car in August — we give the range and say so.
How sure we are
Verified — from the operator, the ministry or reputable press. Reported — from secondary sources, so given as “around” or a range. Aggregator fare — the lowest adult fare listed by ferry booking sites; your boat and date will differ.

When a card terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in your own currency, decline and pay in euros. That rate is set by the machine's operator and is consistently worse than your bank's. Every business in Greece, taxis included, is required to accept cards — and to give you a receipt.
Money, cards and tipping →Questions about money
How much is the Acropolis in 2026?
€30 full and €15 reduced, since 1 April 2025. There is no winter discount any more, entry is by hourly slot, and it is single entry. Admission is free on a handful of fixed days: 6 March, 18 April, 18 May, the last weekend of September and 28 October.
What is the resilience fee on my hotel bill?
A per-room, per-night charge paid by the guest, usually at checkout. From April to October it is €2 for 1–2★ hotels and rooms to let, €5 for 3★, €10 for 4★, €15 for 5★ and for houses over 80 m², and €8 for short-term rentals. Winter rates are much lower.
How much is the ferry from Piraeus to Santorini?
Booking sites list adult deck fares from around €46 in 2026. The crossing takes roughly 5 hours on a fast boat and 11 hours or more on a conventional ferry. Your actual fare depends on the boat, the date and how early you book — check the operator.
How much does a day on a Greek island cost?
Before the room, our estimate — built only from the ranges on this page — runs from a careful day (coffee, gyros, a simple taverna, the bus) to one with a hire car and front-row sunbeds. Mykonos and Santorini sit well above the average.
Should I pay in euros or in my own currency?
Always in euros. Businesses in Greece, taxis included, must accept cards. When a terminal or cash machine offers to charge you in dollars, pounds or lei, decline: that rate is set by the machine's operator and is the worst available.
