🏛️ Ancient sites
The Acropolis now costs €30 and most of the great sites €20; tickets come in timed slots, heat can close sites at midday, and parts of Delphi and the Achilleion are shut. Here is what each major site costs, what is open and how to visit well — checked in September 2026.

Prices went up in April 2025. The Acropolis rose from €20 to €30 (reduced €15) and lost its winter half-price. Most major state sites and museums — Knossos, Delphi, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Delos, Olympia, Mystras, Lindos, Vergina, the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes and the Heraklion Museum — now cost €20, with €10 reduced tickets where offered. The old seven-site combined ticket for Athens is reported discontinued, and the Heraklion Museum + Knossos combo is no longer valid.
Book a time slot. The Acropolis sells hourly entry slots, the Heraklion Museum is timed too, and Lindos is reported to have introduced slots in 2026. Buy on the Ministry of Culture's official e-ticket site, hhticket.gr, and be wary of resellers charging more for the same ticket. At the Acropolis entry is single: leave and you cannot return on the same ticket.
Hours shrink with the season. In summer most sites typically open 08:00–20:00, shortening from September; winter hours can end at 15:30 or 17:00. The Acropolis runs 08:00–20:00 in high summer (last entry 19:30), 08:00–19:00 from 16 to 30 September and 08:00–17:00 in winter. Always check the day's hours before you set off.
Heat closures are real. On extreme-heat days the Acropolis and other sites close between roughly 12:00 and 17:00 — it happened, for example, on 8 July 2025. In July and August, go at opening.
Free days. At the Acropolis, Knossos and Mystras entry is free on 6 March, 18 April, 18 May, the last weekend of September and 28 October — there are no free winter Sundays there any more. Some other sites (Delos, Olympia, Aigai, the Heraklion Museum) still list free first or third Sundays in winter, so check the individual site's page. Free days bring the biggest queues of the year.

The Parthenon and its rock. Since April 2025 the ticket is €30, with no winter half-price. Book a slot, arrive at opening, and remember that once you leave you cannot go back in.

The largest Minoan palace, inscribed in July 2025 with Phaistos, Malia and other sites as the Minoan Palatial Centres. Go early — shade is scarce.

The oracle's sanctuary on the slopes of Parnassus, with one of the finest site museums in Greece. The closures cut part of the visit — the Tholos postcard view included.
Partly closed: the Athena Pronaia sanctuary, the Stadium and the Kastalia spring are currently closed for safety.
