Drogarati Cave

4.4(9,109)out of 5 on GoogleClosed · Sunday from 09:00📍 Sami, Kefalonia

Drogarati is a large limestone cave a few minutes from Sami, opened to visitors in the 20th century. A path of steps leads down into a great chamber hung with stalactites and rising stalagmites, so spacious and with such good acoustics that it has been used for concerts in the past.

The visit is short and easy, which makes it a good pairing with Melissani nearby on the same morning. Inside, the air is cool and damp, a welcome change on a hot day, and the steps can be slippery, so wear shoes with grip rather than flip-flops. It is not a place for a long stay, but the main hall is genuinely impressive. Opening months and hours vary with the season, so check before you drive over.
