Chios Mastic Museum

A modern museum on the hillside above Pyrgi, set among living mastic trees, that takes the crop apart year by year: the cuts made in the bark in summer, the white sand spread underneath to catch the resin, the sorting and cleaning done by hand in winter, and the cooperative that has controlled the trade since 1938. It explains the villages better than the villages do. Allow an hour and check the opening hours on the website.
