Kathara Monastery
Μονή Καθαρών
A monastery at around 600 metres on the shoulder of Mount Neritos, reached by a winding road up from Vathy. The buildings are modest — the island's earthquakes have seen to that — but the bell tower terrace gives the best view on Ithaca: the whole southern half of the island, the harbour of Vathy below and Kefalonia across the strait. Cover shoulders and knees.
