Kotsinas Fortress
Φρούριο Κότσινα
Kotsinas was the island's second port and its Byzantine stronghold, and the low ruins above the bay are what the Ottomans left of it. The site is better known now for the bronze statue of Maroula, a local girl who in the tradition took up her dead father's sword during the siege, and for the underground spring reached by a flight of worn stone steps below the chapel. Fifteen minutes, free, and a good stop before the beach.
