Antisamos is a long curve of white pebbles in a bay just over the hill from Sami, on the east coast of Kefalonia, framed by steep green slopes that drop straight into very clear water. It is the most-reviewed beach on the island, and it appeared in the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which still brings visitors looking for the scenery.

The road down winds over the ridge from Sami with fine views of the bay on the way. In summer part of the beach is organised with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar, and the rest is free. The pebbles are smooth but water shoes help, and the seabed drops off fairly quickly. It fits neatly into a day with Melissani and Drogarati caves. Arrive early in August, when parking is tight.
