Navagio, Shipwreck Beach, is a narrow crescent of white pebbles at the foot of sheer cliffs on the north-west coast, with no road down. The wreck on the sand is a small cargo ship that ran aground around 1980 and has been rusting into a photo opportunity ever since.
The practical news matters more than the legend: the beach is closed to landing and swimming until 31 October 2026 because of landslide risk. Boat trips from Porto Vromi and the northern harbours still run along the coast, but they cannot put you ashore, so treat any offer that promises otherwise with suspicion. The best view is from above, at the clifftop platform near Agios Georgios Krimnon. Check the status again before booking if you are travelling after October.
