Mylopotas is the main beach of Ios: a long curve of golden sand below Chora, a short drive or bus ride down the hill, with clear, shallow water at the edges and a gentle slope that suits most swimmers. It is also the social centre of the island, with sunbeds, beach bars, water-sports rentals and places to stay lined up behind the sand.
Its character depends on the month. In July and August, and especially around the beach bars, it is loud, young and busy from lunch onwards. In June and September the same beach is relaxed and easy, and families do very well here. For more space, walk towards the ends of the bay. The buses between the port, Chora and Mylopotas run frequently in summer, so there is no need to drive after a late night.
