Delphi Archaeological Site
Delphi spreads up a steep slope of Mount Parnassus above the olive groves of the Pleistos valley, and even without its history the setting would be worth the journey. The Greeks considered it the centre of the world. Follow the Sacred Way as it zigzags past the treasuries of the city-states, including the rebuilt Treasury of the Athenians, up to the Temple of Apollo and the theatre above it. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Tickets cost €20 (€10 reduced). Be aware that the Stadium at the top, the Kastalian spring and the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia are currently closed because of rockfall risk. The climb is steep and hot: start at opening time, bring water, and visit the museum afterwards. Check the day's hours.
