Monastery of the Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity, Agia Triada, is the most dramatically isolated of the Meteora monasteries, perched alone on a tall pillar of rock with sheer drops on every side. Film fans know it from the climax of the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, and on a first sighting it looks almost unreachable.
It isn't, but it takes effort: a path descends from the road into a small valley, then a long flight of steps cut into the rock climbs to the entrance. Inside are a small frescoed church and a garden terrace with views over Kalambaka and the plain. It is part of the Meteora World Heritage Site. The weekly closing day is reported as Thursday, but check before you go, bring cash for the entry fee and dress modestly.
