🏛️ UNESCO

The Temple of Apollo stands at Delphi, a classic stop on the road between Athens and Meteora, and it was the heart of the most famous oracle of the ancient world. Here the Pythia, Apollo's priestess, gave the answers that kings and cities travelled across the Greek world to hear. What stands today are the foundations and several re-erected Doric columns of the 4th-century BC temple, built after an earlier one was destroyed.

The temple sits on a terrace above the Sacred Way, part of the Delphi archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The ticket is €20 (€10 reduced); note that some parts of the wider site, including the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, are currently closed for safety. Climb early, before the heat and the coaches, and check the day's hours.
