Mesta

Μεστά

🎟️ Free entry

The best preserved of the mastic villages and the most striking: a single interlocking block of houses whose outer walls form a continuous defensive perimeter with no openings at ground level, entered through a few gates. Inside, the streets are so narrow and so often vaulted over that they feel like corridors, and they were deliberately laid out to confuse anyone who got in. Two churches, a square with tavernas, and almost no cars. Park outside and walk.
