Koukounaries Beach
Koukounaries is the most famous beach in the Sporades: a long, gentle curve of fine golden sand at the south-western end of Skiathos, backed by a forest of stone pines and, behind that, the Strofylia lagoon, a protected wetland. The water is shallow and usually calm, which makes it a classic family beach.
It is also the busiest beach on the island. Sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and water sports line much of the sand in summer, and parking is limited, so take the island bus, which runs along the south coast from Skiathos Town and ends here. Walk into the pine forest for shade, keep to the paths around the lagoon, and come early or late in July and August if you want space.
