Vlychos is the hamlet about half an hour west of Hydra town on the coastal path, past Kamini and under an old stone bridge. Its beach is grey pebbles with sunbeds and a couple of tavernas right on the water, and the bay is sheltered enough for children even though the bottom drops away fast. Most people walk one way and take a water taxi back, which costs a few euros and saves the climb in the afternoon heat. It is busier than Plakes, the next beach west, and better supplied.
