Adamas & the south coast
The port where everything arrives and every boat trip leaves, with the island's best swimming beaches — Firiplaka, Tsigrado, Paleochori — on the coast behind it.

Adamas is not pretty and it is extremely useful. The ferries dock here, the boat trips leave from here, the car and quad hire is here, and so are most of the island's hotels and a waterfront of restaurants that are better than a port's reputation suggests. The mining museum is worth half an hour: Milos is a geological freak, and almost everything odd about its coastline starts there.
Cross the island — fifteen minutes by road — and the south coast is the payoff. Firiplaka and Tsigrado sit under striped volcanic cliffs; Tsigrado is reached down a rope and a wooden ladder through a crack in the rock, which is either the best thing on Milos or a hard no. Paleochori has hot ground under the sand, Provatas is the easy family one, and Achivadolimni is the longest beach on the island.
Be honest with yourself about the car. Several of the best beaches are at the end of unsurfaced tracks, and most rental agreements on Milos exclude dirt roads — ask before you sign, not after.
