Greece in February

Still winter, still cheap, still quiet — good for the mainland's great sites, carnival in Patras, and not much else.

Crowds: QuietPrices: Lowest

February is January with longer days. Athens and the Peloponnese are the places to be: Nafplio, Mycenae and Epidaurus without a coach in sight, and the light on the Argolid at its clearest.

Carnival season builds towards Lent. Patras stages the biggest carnival in Greece, and smaller towns hold their own. On the islands, nothing has changed — winter timetables, closed hotels, and a sea only the hardiest swim in.
