Katapoliani Monastery
Μονή Καταπολιανής
A walled monastery on the slope between Isternia and Pyrgos, whitewashed and almost windowless from outside, with a courtyard of marble paving and arcades within. It is a quiet, working place rather than a sight with a ticket desk, and it is not always open — if the gate is shut, the walk and the view across to Syros are still worth the detour. Cover shoulders and knees if you go in.
