Agios Georgios Varsamitis
Άγιος Γεώργιος Βαρσαμίτης
A small monastery church in the hills south-west of Chora, reached by a dirt road and then a short walk, with a spring running under the floor. It was for centuries the island's oracle: people came to put a question and read the answer in the water. The practice is long gone but the building, the spring and the silence are still there. Nobody staffs it; the door is usually open.
