East of Pachia Ammos the road gives up and Vatos is what is left: coarse sand and shingle under a wall of rock, no taverna, no sunbeds, no shade. It has been the island's unofficial nudist beach for decades and the atmosphere is still half campsite, half nature reserve. Walk in from the end of the track, or take the summer boat along the coast. Bring everything, including water and an umbrella, and keep an eye on the wind — this coast takes the swell head on.
